Any injury or accident that occurs in the workplace has to be recorded in an accident book. Records of incidents are important in ensuring that you collect the minimum amount of information to allow you rto check that you are doing wnough to ensure safety and prevent occupational diseases.

The information recorded in an accident book can be used as a support to risk assessment, helping to develop solution for potential risks.

Also, the report informs the enforcing authorities, such as HSE or local authorities, about death, injuries, occupational diseases and dangerous occurences so they can identify where and how risks occur and whether they require investigations.

The report can be treated as a record for the purposes of RIDDOR.
